I actually think this album is pretty solid. While it is pretty predictable full of the Dolls' cliches we've come to expect by now, there are some gems tucked between the album's "disappointments" that people keep mentioning. "Caught in the Storm" is great, and "Bulletproofangel" is a beautiful cut with a great, angelic chorus. While the aforementioned tracks (along with pretty much the rest of the record) follow the same GGD song structures, complete with safe chord progressions, pop melodies, and often annoyingly pseudo-poetic love-themed lyrics written about a girl that probably doesn't exist--moreover just a sort of songwriting "reflex" that Johnny has developed in order to reach the hearts of his female listeners, the album is...well, entertaining to me and hasn't grown stale to me ears yet. |
