with disease sadly didn't do anything for me but i'll give it some more time. i will say i do like it more than this one, even with the conflicting feelings. the highs are so much higher where this just kind of... plodded?

I thought these guys could do no wrong until I heard this, made covid so much worse lmao...mind will at least be an improvement for most fans. gonna be a divisive one.

The comments in the “listening party” chat on Bandcamp were overwhelmingly and enthusiastically favorable to the album. But I’m sure the demographic for those things (mid day on a weekday, having to RSVP etc.) are gonna be the Stans that will love anything the band does.

I had fun, never attended one of those before. Some were definitely caught off guard and muffled their dismay lol, made sure to listen to it beforehand to avoid the same fate. But I'm really happy I'm enjoying it so much. A few listeners were comparing it to RHP, which I now see some similarities.

Yeah the Bandcamp listening party was my first too. A really cool thing. I hope to see more bands doing that with their new releases. Definitely a vulnerable spot to be in as a band though so maybe that’s why it’s not more of a thing.

still mixed on it - i do definitely think it's better than this but his vocals don't carry the song in the quieter sections (key exception being first half of daybreak - it lands beautifully there) and though several spins i end up just wanting to skip those sections entirely. 'with disease' grew on me after a few listens but it feels more at home on 'heartless' than the tone of this record. the 5 preceding songs seem really intent in their tone and mood and that track just doesn't fit the rest in my head. still, glad it's better than this record. i can see myself returning a lot to tracks 1 and 5.

Agree with whoever said daybreak should have been the closer. Swapped with with disease. Would’ve been a noticeable upgrade to the flow/album close.

glad someone agrees, didn't know if i was just going nuts ahaha

i have been listening to this a lot but instead of being impressed by it i just find it... comfortable ig? it's a really easy album to listen to. idk whether that's a compliment or not. i'd argue it's their most accessible record yet. i'm somewhere between a 3.5 and a 3.0, i just wish they did more with the proggy elements as opposed to just quiet/loud dynamics and a saxaphone on one track. the subtle synths on the first track were gorgeous and more of that would have served this super well.

i might come out of review retirement just to review this one - i have a lot of thoughts about it

^do it! It needs one. Then we can actually have comment discussions for that album on its actual page. Lol

Again I agree. I was just thinking about it earlier today while on drive and listening through the album again that I wish they would’ve made more use of the synths/proggy elements.

With more spins I'm feeling the same thing. It's a much stronger followup from forgotten days, but it needs fine tuning and misses their proggy side. Signals chorus for example should at least be shortened, awkwardly longer than necessary. At least my first impression was fantastic lol, comfortable with leaving it as a 4. Light fades, endless days are awesome tracks.

If yall haven’t heard the Fellowship Sound mix of Heartless you’re missing out big time. I think it was only available for digital purchase on Bandcamp for a limited time.
