MUCH better than the rating says. The album doesn't reinvent the wheel by any means, but it's certainly above average raw black metal. Admittedly DsO has outdone this by a big margin later, but fans of cold black metal should give this a go. The second half suffers from being demo quality (which it actually is, a demo), but it's not that bad. 3.6/5

First four tracks are fine, run of the mill black metal that I'm happy to have heard once and would be happy never hearing again. 3.3 sort of stuff, although the fadeout at the end of 3, the first wavey kinda boring 4, and some other clumiser bits tilted it to a 3.2. Then the second half of the record is the demo literally copy pasted with the prod and everything. And it is far cooler, although the album now doesnt really makes sense as a record does it. And it begs the question - why would you ever listen to this and not the demo? The answer is I can't see a reason. Not a bad, but entirely forgettable/pointless, so overall 2.5

The rating doesn't really do justice to this album. Here we have just 4 proper album tracks. And the other songs are from "Disciples Of The Ultimate Void" demo (1999). Album tracks sound quite muddy and lo-fi, but I think the production is adequate and atmospheric. Performance is very good with the loud and distinct bass and badass drumming. The music itself is not so traditional as you might think. It's pretty brutal, intense and harmonies are always very interesting. The demo tracks sound very raw. Again, the playing is very good and the music is really cool. We all know, what a beast is Deathspell Omega now, but their debut has some amazing moments too.

This is AWESOME. This is sonic human torture at its finest. I wanted to kill myself when i
frist listened to it, and that's should be telling you something (i listened tons of
disutrbing and pummeling music). Its not Darkthrone at all
