While emo and post-hardcore share many characteristics, post-hardcore was merely hardcore looking for new structures, instead of the straightforward hardcore sound. Emo evolved out of the wish to add more introspection to the music, hence a new quiet/loud song structure and more clean vocals. The term screamo is a more agressive offshoot of emo and leans much more to post-hardcore. What post-punk has to do with this, well it doesn't.
