2.5 average | grandfather | May 25th 22 | Caved to the hype and gave this a couple of spins. Thoroughly soulless Myspacecore revival. The weird production is a huge issue; both the vocals and guitars are buried half the time. Might've been an artistic decision, but it really doesn't work. The total lack of memorable vocal melodies doesn't help, either, especially since this style is good for basically nothing else. You might like this if you're looking for some Silverstein-esque background music.

4.0 excellent | ajcollins15 | May 24th 22 | As the fifth wave emo genre expands and more artists turn the genre into a full-fledged monster, we are seeing a bit of another small revival of the classic emo-pop and screamo genre. This UK-based band brings a lot of that classic post-hardcore angst and anger head-on with their debut album ?Rouge Carpet Disaster?. It has a very mid-2000s mall goth feel to it, if not a lot of the album is pulling from a lot of those early 2000s screamo acts. What might be the hardest thing for me to sit through with the record is how blatant some of the influences are throughout the whole listen. Plus my feelings towards revival acts is never positive because most of the time I would rather listen to the original. But the band makes a real statement with the project here and overall it?s a very solid and explosive listen that any fan of emo will enjoy the project.

3.9 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | January 11th 23 | The best Underoath record since, like, Lost in the Sound of Translation, Rouge Carpet Disaster features everything you'd need in a "mainstream" post-hardcore record: passionate vocals, alt-metal linings, emo sensibilities, and the occasional metalcore passage to show how tough ya are. When all this is created by people with talent (the clean singer isn't annoying, huzzah!) and love for the genre, it's a real good sign for the future.

2.5 average | c0nf1n3d | August 31st 23 | For anyone that plays video games out there, you know how there's those 'Spiritual Successor' games that are meant to serve as a quazi-sequel to another game? Examples here include Perfect Dark, Yooka-Laylee, Freedom Planet, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and more. Static Dress' "Rouge Carpet Disaster" is essentially the same concept, but for the older sound of underOATH. It feels unfair to coin it that way, but the influence is massively present. The bad news is, underOATH had genuinely catchy vocal hooks and melodies, whereas Static Dress gets close, but doesn't hit the finish line in terms of memorable hooks. The style's here, the musicianship is solid, the passion is felt in the creation of the record, but they needed a good producer to coach them in writing memorable hooks. That's the only piece missing in what otherwise could be the next generation's potential introduction to the style.

3.5 great | Bedex | September 24th 24 | Man this album sure did a) make me want to jam some core oldies to remember the good times b) frustrate me with its prod. Indeed, this band knows both how to riffz (just see the openings of 3 or 6), and how to clean with good, not annoying clean vocals, and including on the nice bridge track 4. My main issue is the prod and how it interfaces with the harsh vocals. It makes for a rather screechy, treble-heavy, "crissant" sound that just pushes it to unpleasant rather than heavy to my ears. The opening of 5 is an immediate example. I love the clean guitar work on 8, and hate the screechy prod on the harsh parts. It's a shame, because without this issue, this would have been a fairly solid albeit not revolutionary and rather revivalesque record. But with it, it's something I wouldn't really jam in full again, although snippets of it make for great inspiration. 3.4
