I think it's safe to say the appropriate response to a band with a scope as large as Broken Social Scene's is faith. I wouldn't say I came into this album thinking it could topple that indie beast You Forgot It in People, but then that itself demands such faith. I go between humming "Almost Crimes" in sheer delight and head-scratching to the same track not a day later, wondering exactly what has gone from it, but ultimately that's what I like the most about this collective: I can never tell whether they want me to bask in them or snooze to them, and so I can take them with me whenever. And Forgiveness Rock Record gives out different reactions too - it's revealed more and more with each listen and it meanders just as the band's records have done before, but doesn't forget to straighten itself out too. After a run of undiscovered hits such as "Chase Scene", "Texico Bitches", "Forced to Love" and on and on, we're treated to something more emphatic and conclusive than all potential singles put together in "Water In Hell", one of the album's - the band's - simplest triumphs. And then they go and spoil it all by drifting away in "Me and My Hand". This is definitely Broken Social Scene up to old tricks and for all seasons, and I feel foolish for turning my nose up at that for a whole week.

It's got the flow and diversity of You Forgot It In People... and when I say that, it's not a simple comparison, bro. It's
more like a, "Shit, dude, stuff like that doesn't poke it's head around the corner very often." Yeah, it's got a few
Downers here and there, but then again- even the best of things have their flaws. I could ramble about the chillness
and catchy-as-fuck lovability of this for a few paragraphs (and call it a review), but that's not really necessary. This
IS Broken Social Scene, remember? Therefore it's cool.

Soft, Squishy, Moist, and Delicious. Everything a good indie album should be. Each song is delectably unique and enjoyable. A Vast improvement over the S/T album. Good Job BSS! (this one's going on the best of 2010 list) 4.1/5

All things indie: this babe got some tasty Dino Jr. riffs, irrestitibly sweet pop melodies, quirky bleep bloops, and it's a fucking winner. Yah, it ain't no You Forgot It in People, but Forgiveness Rock Record is, simply, extremely enjoyable to listen to.

What exactly are Broken Social Scene apologizing for with their new record? As the patriarchs of a mammoth scene, Broken Social Scene don�t really have anything more to prove. It�s fitting then, that Forgiveness Rock Record turns inward, focusing on beefing up the production and creating intricate compositions to get lost in. While it might be a tad grandiose (not to mention way too long), it�s exactly what one should expect from a band so wonderfully outsized as this one.

If Forgiveness Rock Record kept up with the pace it sets with the first two songs (World Sick and Chase Scene) it would have run away with AOTY honors. Instead, the first two tracks are the best here, and the collaborative becomes too artsy fartsy for its own good on parts of the record. Tracks such as Forced Love, Meet Me in the Basement and Romance to the Grave are still golden, but a refinement of the art rock/indie/borderline pretentious sound seems to be in order for the great Broken Social Scene.
