3.5 great | Shadein | November 11th 10 | A very hit and miss record, of course if you like quality music you won't like this. But if you're like me who has a sweet spot for this band, you might find enjoyment in this. There are less heavier parts, save for "2nd Sucks" (which is the heaviest song they've written; no clean vocals).
The mix of metalcore and pop-punk ADTR is known for is displayed only in "You Be Tails, I'll Be Sonic" and "Sticks and Bricks". The rest of the album is pop-punk, and there are some solid songs; however, there are many similarities to New Found Glory. "All Signs Point to Lauderdale" is the best song on the album, and if you've heard it you know all the fans will be singing along to the exceptionally catchy chorus once this song comes on.
It's a short album, clocking in at about half an hour. It feels rushed, especially with the abundance of pop songs then comes 2nd Sucks (A complete metalcore breakdown fest) halfway through the record, throwing off the consistency of the whole album. They have seemed to let their mainstream success get to their heads with the separation of metalcore and pop, so that people who recently got into ADTR and like them solely for their radio-friendly songs don't have to sit through the heavy parts; basically, mainstream listeners can put the pop-punk songs on their iPod and forget about the rest. ADTR fans will eat this up in a few months.

3.5 great | theUWFBOY | February 22nd 11 | The new more rocky sound fits ADTR very well, I think. Yeah, I was also a fan from the beginning, blablablaah... but even I noticed that this band has put out enough metalcore songs fans can listen to.. so why repeating the same formula over and over again. They did it right and tried something new - something many "true" fans will not like, but hey, you got 3 albums, 1 EP and many other singles from their previous work you can stick to, so why complain about ADTR trying to make something new. I mean, come on, Jeremy says it often enough, they write the music for themselves, so they absolutely have the right to do what they want to do!

4.0 excellent | ImpendingSpoon321 | November 14th 10 | good catchy tunes, and of course the classic ADTR breakdowns. I'm definitely biased but this album was a pleasant surprise. Speaking of surprises, 2nd sucks has no clean vocals whatsoever, how awesome is that?

2.0 poor | RosaParks | November 11th 10 | It kills me to say that some of this turned out pretty catchy.rWhatever. This band is still mostly bland and uninteresting as fuck.rThe heavier tracks are pretty bad.rIf you're thinking about checking it out, don't.

3.5 great | AwakeningDay | January 9th 13 | Main theme word about this album: catchy. They have the ability to create those catchy choruses out of nothing, but at the same time it gets a bit predictable as well. Better than "Homesick" though.

4.0 excellent | jmval826 | February 1st 11 | A Day To Remeber has found itself an interesting niche in the music community. Eternally loved and revered by its fans and viciously hated by people who call themselves true hardcore fans. However I think ADTR is to be applauded for its audacity. Originally it was ADTR's hard hitting and ruthless breakdowns coupled with agressive lyrics and more than a healthy dose of screaming thrown in there that brought its fans in. That is why "What seperates me from you" is a gem in the music world, the band still incorporated its original some of its original formula for awesome music but also took a totally new direction. ADTR added punk pop elements while maybe toneing down the breakdown portion of its success, but still, to me anyway, holding true to the feeling that the band has always gone for. This album didnt dissapoint me, instead it showed me that ADTR is a band that does whatever the hell it wants. They write they music that THEY want to write, and if you aren't on board then they dont really care. "What Seperates Me From You" may dissapoint some but to others it will become an album that you point to in the future and say, "you know what? that band was the S**t! and that album is one of the reasons why!" The audacity... how dare they stop writing the same song over and over again!

4.5 superb | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | November 19th 10 | I don't know what it is; perhaps the way they integrated an all time low type pop punk sound (that didn't suck) and heavier sections with overall more personality (particularly because of vocalist jeremy mckinnon's INCREDIBLY improved screams) and definite shift from their previous metalcore styled breakdowns to straight hardcore breakdowns, but ehhh I'm listening to to album A LOOOOOOOOOOOT! Ahhh, i'm so gay for liking this.

4.5 superb | ladiesman199314 | November 15th 10 | This album is epic. Loved it, recommended it, played its sick beat in my car. A couple of songs were a let-down, then I remembered it was A Day To Remember and loved them all the same. 0.5 off for off-putting release date, was super cut when I heard.

2.5 average | GetTheFuckUp | November 14th 10 | I would rate this higher if I weren't holding this to older ADTR standards. On the upside it's a good album for the most part for what it is. Very catchy and enjoyable to listen to. The lyrics are really good and awesome to sing along to (here comes a flood of scene girl facebook statuses). On the downside, A Day To Remember use to have a lot more to them than this. The only 3 songs that may possibly attract fans of the heavier ADTR are "Sticks and Bricks", "2nd Sucks", and "You Be Tails, I'll Be Sonic". Their are only 10 songs on this album which is barely enough to be a full length which is fine for a debut but this is their fourth relsease. The production quality of the few heavy parts is terrible. The breakdowns sound terrible compared to older stuff. Go listen to how raw the breakdowns sound on "For Those Who Have Heart" and then listen to this. The guitar almost sounds muffled. They pumped this up to make it sound like they weren't selling out and then relseased "2nd Sucks" before the album came out. ADTR fans just got hustled.

2.0 poor | ChancyWancy | November 13th 10 | 2nd Sucks is a 4-Star-Worthy song. The rest of the album is awful. 2nd Sucks saved me from giving this a worse rating than I did.

3.0 good | iamSeraph | November 12th 10 | Calmer and softer than Homesick, coevally feeling kinda rushed. Overall a quite catchy pop-punk output with very few core elements left and a really short running time. I don't know if I am liking this direction much. Leaving it a 3.5 for now, maybe downgrading it to 2.5-3 after the next few listens.

2.5 average | kingmchris | November 12th 10 | While I dig all the songs due to A Day to Remember's vice of never being able to make a non-catchy chorus the album feels more like a collection of b-sides than an actual new piece of fully developed material.

3.6 great | Erwann S. STAFF | July 31st 19 | The first record I heard from this band, and I forgot it was kinda bad: average chuggy metalcore riffs and average pop punk hooks. This makes me realize why Four Year Strong are so much better: they didn't simply mash up metalcore and pop punk, they created massive pop punk anthems with heavy riffs rand vocals. Still nostalbae woo!
Bump |
5.0 classic | kinnonmaniac | November 18th 14 | My favorite release by my favorite band, it's a bit different from ADTR. It's more pop punk than any of their other releases, with only three songs being metalcore. The remaining seven are nice, catchy, and all the songs are really good, not one bad song.

0.0 | | March 25th 12 | Repetitive song structures, chugging and an abundant use of breakdowns are present, but these aspects aren't enough to take away from the effect of the catchy style, the strong clean and harsh vocals and the powerful drums. A Day To Remember have stepped it up from their previous album, taking its weaknesses and attempting to remove them, and they succeeded enough to boost the experience of this album to an enjoyable range.

0.0 | xD00mxx | March 17th 12 | Pretty bland, it's basically just very, VERY watered down Metalcore. (Not good Metalcore like As I Lay Dying or Between The Buried And Me) If your a standard 14 year old girl, or little Hot Topic kid, fine. But if you're trying to get into more serious Metal, try something else.

3.0 good | IAmKickass | October 12th 11 | A Day to Remember has changed so much over the years, it's hard to believe this is the same band who crafted the wonderfully addictive For Those Who Have Heart back in 2007. With the amount of attention this band has received with this album and their previous, the band has managed to grip success and call it theirs, getting the radio play and therefore the attention to keep expanding their fanbase. With that radio play though and attention, a heavy change can be heard so easily with What Separates Me From You, a collection of listener friendly pop-punk tracks and a band who seems a bit too confused on their musical goals. The heavier-softer song transitions that worked so well before now seem forced, uncomfortable and uneven. The heaviest song on the album, '2nd Sucks' is a dream song for fans of the older ADTR sound, it's so fast and heavy and energetic, it just works. Besides this song though, nothing else really manages to reach the amount of energy or success as this, sure the band is great at crafting catchy melodies and blending them with 10 year old lyricism, but it doesn't work like it used too. rA Day to Remember are running out of steam, looking more towards the amount of attention they can get on the radio and less on what listeners really want. Of course capturing this newer-ish sound can grant them the gift of new fans, but for people like myself who have stuck around since the start and really get to see where they've come from, this is disappointing. It isn't terrible, but forgettable and and a bit more on the generic side than was expected.

2.5 average | ItsRaybihh92 | August 12th 11 | Yes I agree the whole growling and trying to be metalcore thing thats something they shouldn't do anymore in for those who have heart it actually worked really well but now its pathetic alex shellnut is busting out mediocre laughable drum fills trying to be metal they should just stick with pop-punk.

0.0 | AltPunkMetal | July 27th 11 | A Day to Remember is surprisingly actually really good. They're blend of pop-punk, post-hardcore, and a little bit of metalcore sounds like a weird combination, but works really well. I really enjoyed this album, and it makes me want to check out this band more.

3.0 good | Jones | June 29th 11 | Edit:
Changed the rating from 3.5 down to 3. Was listening to it the other day and I found myself clicking skip quite often. Most of the breakdowns on here are boring and muted, and some of the poppiest parts are too sickly for me to enjoy.
It's still quite good, Sticks And Bricks, Out Of Time and All I Want are some of the best songs they've written. It's not a patch on FTWHH though.

Bump |
3.0 good | DrummerDudeGuy | December 24th 10 | Not good, not bad. Some songs are great, some songs are too mainstream for my tastes.
Bump |
3.0 good | HereComesTheStorm33 | December 18th 10 | A band that apperently doesn't innovate anymore, this is the exact same formula they used on their last album. The songs are catchy and good overall, but being extremely predictable is this album's main fault.
Bump |
3.0 good | c0nf1n3d | November 20th 10 | Sadly, a strong contender for "Biggest Disappointment of 2010." Don't get me wrong, the musicianship in this album,
the production, and the songwriting is great, it's just it feels like it could be better. They've definitely begun moving
away from their typical 'metalcore/pop-punk roots.' Isn't that what made the band fun to listen to in the beginning?
I only liked about 4-5 tracks in this album. "Sticks & Bricks" and "You Be Tails, I'll Be Sonic" are 2 of their strongest
tracks, as well as very reminiscent of their older material. "All I Want" is a great and catchy first single, "2nd Sucks" is
just a constant breakdown, but in many ways, that's what makes it fun to listen to (the Mortal Combat sample in the
beginning is great too). "All Signs Point to Lauderdale" is a catchy song just in itself.
Other than that, the rest of the tracks almost don't feel fun to listen to. You just expect more, I guess, but it doesn't
deliver.
Regardless, I still love the band, and the tracks mentioned above make up for the others A LOT!

2.0 poor | Selop212 | November 15th 10 | I love homesick and was totally stoked for this album. Extremely disappointed. only like 3 songs with any screaming. It's all so mainstream, I even heard "All I Want" on the radio yesterday. Cool for them, i guess but I'm done. 2nd Sucks is great tho.

3.0 good | KosherSoldier | November 13th 10 | Nothing new, meh. Typical ADTR album. They totally underused the new guitarist/vocalist, Kevin Skaff; his voice is light years better than McKinnon's.

1.5 very poor | rmill3r | November 12th 10 | I have to admit I've been growing out of love with this band for a long time now. I think that some stuff they've had in the past was catchy and enjoyable, but they've always had a strong sense of cliche and plainness. What Separates Me From You takes cliche to a whole new level.

Bump |
0.0 | bloc | November 11th 10 | Sure, a 1.5 may seem typical for the band we love to hate, but given how catchy some of the tracks are on their previous releases, this is one of those "honest" 1.5 ratings. What Separates is comprised of the most boring songs you could imagine in post-hardcore/whatever. Terrible lyrics, uninspiring music, and a lack of harsh vocals make this not only boring, but very VERY tame sounding.
Bump |
2.0 poor | TheCore | November 11th 10 | I've been a ADTR fan for a while now, since the And Their Name Was Treason album, and I was quite disappointed with this new album. They've become way to pop-punk for me. Before Homesick and this album they had a good balance of pop-punk/hardcore but now the majority is pop-punk and there are only a select few hardcore songs on the album (2nd sucks, Sticks and Bricks) while the rest is all mainstream, radio-friendly music. If you like pop-punk then yes you will enjoy the album, but those who liked the hardcore ADTR (And Their Name Was Treason, For Those Who Have Heart) probably won't enjoy the album.
