An album apparently made on auto-pilot. The vast majority of the songs feel like the band has taken a serviceable musical element, be it a decent riff, some gang vocals, maybe a bit of screaming possibly chuck in a memorable chorus line or two and then chucked it into some kind of song machine which then turned out a song. Even the guitar solos are pretty interchangeable. These songs don't have their own atmospheres because they're built with the same elements and structures and though each one makes for a perfectly alright single track an entire album worth gets stale. A couple of songs (Everyday Combat, A Town Called Hypocrisy) benefit from conscious efforts to create a certain sound a little outside the norm but as for the rest, there's not a bad song on here (in fact there's not even a single bad moment, though occasionally the vocals dive into straight out nasal whine) but there's not a great one either. This problem was present on Start Something but to a lesser degree as the songs sounded fresher and heavier. Next time guys, please pay attention to what you're doing. |
