Her early work had good lyrics and a seeming authenticity to it. The Best Damn Thing entirely changed my opinion of her, and for the worse. It really is a terrible, terrible album. There are a couple of songs that are not overly disgraceful - "Contagious" and "Hot" - , which is why I don't give this an even lower rating, but " I Don't Have To Try" is quite possibly one of the worst songs ever written. Avril seems to be attempting some sort of screamo at times, and it just doesn't work. On other tracks, she just comes off as an overall obnoxious person. I hate this. I absolutely hate it. It's not even the kind of music that's bad yet catchy, it's just awful
