4.0 excellent | manosg EMERITUS | February 2nd 18 | On Cryptoriana ? The Seductiveness of Decay, the masters of Victorian gothic horror built on everything that made Hammer of the Witches such a revelation, expanded on those ideas, and created a less instant but deeper and more developed offering.rThe guitarwork is among the best among Cradle of Filth?s discography and Dani?s vocals are once again solid, while the reduced number of shrieks makes the album an appropriate starting point for potential new listeners. Smerda and Shaw brought new life to a classic formula, infusing it with an array of brilliant riffs and solos while contributing to one of the most guitar-driven albums in the band?s career. Actually, if one could transport Cryptoriana right between Cruelty and the Beast and Midian, it would make sense.

4.0 excellent | Trey STAFF | October 8th 17 | Nobody expected Cradle of Filth to recover from their 15-year slump with such skill when they released Hammer of the Witches, but they did. Despite that, there were still a lot of questions about the band’s ability to adeptly follow it up. It turns out any concerns were unwarranted. Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay is easily Cradle of Filth’s most visceral, nuanced, and consistent album in their 23-year career. The riffs are some of their best, the melodies are well-developed, and Dani Filth’s vocals sound better than they ever have. Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay does everything its predecessor did right, but better, and with more style, flair, and conviction. If there’s one thing you need to know going in, it’s that Cryptoriana isn’t as ‘instant’ as its predecessor. It will require a few more listens to click, but once it does it quickly turns into the better, more rewarding, listen.

3.4 great | Xenophanes EMERITUS | September 26th 17 | After making fun of this band for years without every actually listening to them I have to say I had fun. Kinda silly and dramatic but a lot more fun than it has any right to be. Reminds me of Sigh I suppose.

5.0 classic | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | August 5th 17 | Absolutely amazing album and the perfect continuation of the sound they introduced with Hammer. They brought
back some classic Filthisms without sounding stale and dated. And this could honestly be Dani's best album
vocally, he kills it.

4.5 superb | ColonelWang | July 21st 17 | Super unexpected, in that I was often surprised at the little intricacies that were present rthroughout the songs. The riffs are super nutty too.

3.4 great | Erwann S. STAFF | September 13th 23 | Mega silly and cheesy and epic, Cryptoriana (that name alone is silly and cheesy and epic) features its fair share of sick riffs and overall engaging songwriting for my non-sympho ass to enjoy this.

3.5 great | Tibi | December 19th 17 | Better than previous efforts overall, but honestly I can only pick 2 really good songs: Heartbreak and Seance and You Will Know the Lion by His Claw. Really pumped though about their next release, if they can keep their band members for the years to come.

3.5 great | Have you tried jamming HELCARAXE CONTRIBUTOR | November 16th 17 | This could very well be Cradle's best album yet, and if it isn't it sure as hell is close between this and Midian. Dani is as vitalized as I think he has ever been, the instrumentation is ridiculously cohesive, and the guitar solos shred as fierce as they have ever been. This one of those few albums that simply sound like the peak of Cradle's signature sound.

3.5 great | Ebola | July 17th 17 | It's a tad long-winded and inconsistent, but this is nonetheless a solid continuation of CoF's late-career resurgence.

5.0 classic | VortexDNR | July 16th 17 | Not as accessible as Hammer of the Witches, but still great. Reminds me of their pre-Midian material.
