for those of you who ever doubted the talent and future of Dance Gavin Dance you ought be ashamed of your selfs. This goes to show that no vocalist makes a band. Dance Gavin Dance's self titled album aka The Death Star Album is an instant classic. This album bring a new aggressive feel to the post hardcore genre. Kurt Travis the new lead singer does an amazing job with this album and Jon Mess bring a counter part of pure aggression that he always brings. Alex English is a great opener which goes straight in to Buffalo which has an amazing breakdown. The best tracks are Hot Water On Wool/reprise,Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most,Rock Solid,Caviar,Burning Down the Nicotine Amorie Pt 2, Reprogramming Mental Programing,People You Know,Buffalo! maybe its just hear the three songs they released earlier made the kinda old to my ears although they are fucking great songs.The lyrics and clean vocals are more understandable compared to those on Whatever I Say is Royal Ocean and Downtown Battle Mountain.Jon and Kurt mash very well. The guitars are fucking mind blowing!i don't think there is really a rythum part there are two lead haha. if you listen to the songs Will and Zac's part are both pretty technically and awesome. bass is amazing check out the solo on The Robot pt3. The drum are boss.as always nothing short of amazing.Oh and last but not least....Matt Geise[lower definition],Chino Moreno[deftones],Nic Newsham[Gatsby's American Dream] do an amazing job at guess vocals.The point is DGD epically out did themselves. the album is different no doubt but it is still dance gavin dance.

When Johnny departed, I was skeptical. Kurt filled in nicely. This is a great record. Some songs are OK but for the most part, in full, its solid.rMy favorite tracks from the album (in no order): Hot Water on Wool, Uneasy Hearts Weigh the Most and Caviar.

The dumb (and yet still kinda concerningly lovable) conversation in the middle of "Rock Solid" proves that, if anything, DGD have always been the silliest band.

Kurt Travis is definitely not equal in talent to Jonny, but this entire album is golden. Kurt knows how to hold it down. "Uneasy Hearts Weigh the Most" is a song I will never get tired of hearing. Nic Newsham's vocals only add to.

I agree with allynCAVIAR but i have a Different input on this.
Although Johnny is not in the band any more, i think their new CD is absolutely outstanding. This might be one of their best Cd's yet. I miss Johnny in the band, but Travis does do a pretty swell job being the lead singer. Overall Guitar solos are awesome as always. I like how that the songs dont really stop when they go into the next track, So its like the CD is one whole song. "Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most" is such an amazing song on this Cd, i love the beginning. To tell the truth i didn't have much faith in Dance Gavin Dance after Johnny left (don't get me wrong they were still my favorite band) But i didn't know what they were going to do with out a lead singer. But they came up strong with out him and found another great voice for the group. I hope they keep making great music and i cannot wait until they come to my town ;).

Dance Gavin Dance lost Jonny Craig and made up for it with flat out better songwriting. The

Although Happiness would feature some of their finest songs, this is their finest album. Kurt
Travis is my favourite DGD singer precisely because he's not a "perfect" singer like Jonny and
Tilian are, and a fantastic match for the angular yet melodic style DGD are known for. Harsh
vocalist Jon's vocalists are considerably less harsh on this release, and while he'll peak as a
vocalist on Downtown Battle Mountain II, here he's a lot less obnoxious and overbearing. The
songwriting has also been stepped up considerably and is much less repetitive, with everything
blending together relatively well for the band.

Recruiting Kurt Travis as their vocalist was the best move Dance Gavin Dance ever made. His voice permeates every fibre of this record with his boyish swagger, and Jon Mess sounds infinitely better, recharged by newfound chemistry and oozing charisma from every pore. Vastly superior to DBM, this is the sound of a band getting comfortable with their music and writing a bunch of memorable tracks that evoke a lot of emotions that neither of the band's other vocal combos have been able to convey.

I was skeptical about this considering Craig was gone, but never doubt DGD. The Death Star is once again an amazing work with great vocals from Kurt and Jon, and Will Swan does magic with that geetar.

Initially this was a letdown after DTBM, but after some listening, it grew to be like the rest of DGD one of my favorite albums. Kurt is different than Jonny and not quite as soulful, but such a strong singer and probably more creative in his melodies. The music grew quite a bit from the first album, branching off from the more "normal" heaviness of the genre into a bit more experimental and playful.rMy favorite tracks are the Hot Water on Wool suite and Rock Solid. Absolutely love the little hat tip to the Sweater Song, but when everyone comes back for the reprise, it's chills.

Kurt and DGD at their prime. Honestly think this CD is a step up from Downtown Battle Mountain. "Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most" and "Rock Solid" are my favorite tracks, although the latter annoys the shit out of my friends. I kinda lost interest in DGD after they released Happiness, although I'm SO stoked for DBM Part 2.

I enjoy this album for the most part. Jazzy riffs and catchy melodies. But the screams on this are quite obnoxious. They're super high in the mix and are used a bit to much in my opinion. Besides that its an enjoyable listen.

This album lacks what Dance Gavin Dance was before. Kurt singing makes him sound whiney. The screamer needs to learn how to exhale scream. The guitarist is still extremely skilled and leaves you reminiscing of Down Town Battle Mountain.
People You Know should be taken off the album and never performed cause it is just a mess. The screaming is terrible the lyrics are awful and the point of the song is the same as every other song on the album. As stated in the CD "Give me something to sing the the listeners of this CD" I don't want the music you put out on this album and I won't be attending a show where you are playing because you have all sold yourselves to short. The base for a good album is there you just need to fine tune your skills and write something that appeals to the old DGD fans. This album really upset me.
