Venom Prison listen to a lot of Lamb of God and then do a deathened metalcore album that is pretty good.

The production is extremely clean but the sound is generic. I like how it's balanced but vocals are a bit too loud for my taste, I get that they're the focus though. They try hard to summon any kind of emotions. Whether it's solos, chick ripping her heart out or those silly song conclusions - it's all disposable and artificial. The second part of "Comfort of Complicity" had potential (really nice solo leading to some interesting melodies) but towards the end they went overboard with melodies and the chick should've just stfu and let the guitars linger. "Pain of Oizys" is hilarious, what a mess - as YellowVoid mentioned it's incoherent at best. This is a calculated product, lacking any kind of creativity or artistry, an amalgamation of modern metal cliches. They tried to appeal to a broad range ov audiences, which lead to those chaotic compositions full ov abrupt changes. No direction, no identity, no style. Second half ov the album is almost unbearable, it's so incoherent. All the band members would make great session musicians, but on their own they got lost. Complete lack of focus is my biggest problem with this album.

Edit: Bro, if you can't hear the obvious melodic metalcore influence, just say that!! This isn't
unique at all, but still rules! Tons of newer bands will tell you pilfer from the greats, if
they're not pressed, why are you??

The songwriting on this album is a mess and bordering on incoherent. Big step down from their previous album. Hopefully it's not too late to right the ship and the next one will be better.

Venom Prison went and picked their sound up like a thin veil. It is now the clearest and cleanest it has ever been. Their writing is still a little samey to me, but then again they can pull together a tight banger. So if 'Samsara' knocked your socks off, 'Erebos' will just as much. They're basically the same album, polished and extended.

With each release I enjoy this band less, and less, and less. This scene is slipping back into parodic rather quick after the erect and small success of other recent hxc chompers/biters. Don't wear it too much on your sleeves guys/gals, even though [it] wouldn't be anywhere if you all of a sudden, didn't.

This is some kind of technical metalcore/deathcore type of deal that goes into an almost ethereal sound at times. It seems pretty damn good for what it is, I just don't personally love what it is.

Early contender for my AOTY, and the 2nd half in particular (starting with Pain of Oizys) is an incredible run of tracks. And when you think about all the exciting perspectives this opens for this band's future, it becomes even more of an achievement.

i do feel like a bunch of the tracks reach natural conclusions before they actually end but there's so much about this album that straight up fucking kills. very easy to look over the minor imperfections when it comes to a record so brimming with personality and righteous anger. very excited about this one.
