'HMHaS' gets off to a tediously slow start lacking both the winning charisma of Eilish's
debut album and the locked-in, fiery vision of its predecessor. It isn't until 'The
Greatest' - track six of ten, by the way - that Eilish starts to break new ground with
uncharacteristically supersized arrangements.

Yes Billie that's what I wanted: you to let your really pretty voice go over songs that have got some dynamics in them. There's a greater focus on indietronica beats and alt-pop sensibilities that still retain Eilish's typically delicate ~vibe~, but what mostly seals the deal is how she accepts to let cathartic moments dictate the record's big moments - the halfway mark and the closer work extremely well at showcasing Eilish's wide vocal range. Still, this ain't an especially great pop record, but at the very least it ain't a total snoozefest.

Hit Me Hard and Soft hits me softly, for the most part as much of the record is mellow, ethereal and atmospheric bits accompanied by Billie's melancholic vocals. It is a bit hard to look at every music website and see this over her debut but that is an argument for another day. The best stretch of this record goes from 'Lunch' to 'Birds of a Feather' and outside of that it varies from a lull to a song that Lana Del Rey already wrote, which is a nice track but not the greatest originality. Overall it feels like the second half is forgettable in the grand scheme despite and much of the record fails to support the very high highs.
