| I'm skeptical about the whole "microtonal" selling point. I can certainly hear microtones here and there, but the moment you sit down and play the majority of the "good" melodies on the piano (like on Droplet), you realize it's mostly just ordinary 12 tone music masqued in a thin veneer of microtones (in other words, he's playing the most normal sounding notes he could find in the microtonal scales). Still, while not as extreme as Harry Partch, the microtones add a dash of flavor to make it a unique electronic record worth hearing. |

Fripper was right: "it's been done so many times before, my man." It's enjoyable nonetheless. Some
of the symphonic parts like on the first track sound great and quite epic. This is of course with
lots of Coltrane worship with sounds that at most would have been innovations for '70s fusion. The
singing sounds surprisingly...dated. Like I'm listening to an Ella Fitzgerald tribute band. I
don't know if that helps set the mood for this as a complete throwback album, but if you accept
that fact, then it might help augment your enjoyment. |

| First track is good with the harmonic minor/egyptian scales put to good use for the slow-burning riffs. Then come two tracks of nothing but ominous drone sounds. The final track is where it's at with violins in counterpoint with guitar riffs making a heavy but beautiful sound. However, there comes a point when the listener decides that dull ambiance that would put Hans Zimmer to sleep does not a good build up make. Only half of this album is worth giving a listen. |

Joanna on the other hand continues to meander through a whole lot of samey passages. Some
parts are really good, but I think she could have improved greatly if she cut the fat off
